I feel like I say this every month, but I cannot believe we are entering November already! The first couple of months of school have flown by! As we enter November, please keep these important dates in mind:
This month has been busy with all kinds of learning and fun activities! MATH - We have been working on multiplication and division! We have focused on strategies for solving problems, as well as learning the properties of multiplication (commutative, associative, distributive.) We made multiplication monsters as a little celebration to end out unit! Our next unit will be on collecting data and graphing. READING - In reading we have been working on summarizing stories and still practicing restating the question. We use the format -somebody - wanted - but - so - then - to summarize our stories. We are also starting our first book clubs this month! WRITING - We are finishing our first unit on narrative writing. We have been in the publishing phase, and will be doing a share next week. I'm really impressed with the revision and editing I have seen! SOCIAL STUDIES - In social studies we are learning about government. We have read a couple of stories about voting, and now we are learning about the branches of government. Here's the little chart the class helped me create. SCIENCE - We have been learning about social and group behavior. We have done a couple of activities that help explain why some animals might travel and live in groups, as opposed to alone. It has been a really fun unit! Next, we are learning about inheritance of traits. We also had a little lesson on fire safety this month. We got to explore a fire truck, and talked about finding safe routes out of our houses. Here are some pictures from that day! And finally, CDS is doing a little school spirit month for the next few Wednesdays. Last week we wore mismatched socks to celebrate our individuality! Have a fantastic November everybody! :)
